Justin is in the second year of his master's thesis in computing science at the University of Alberta. Joining the ALSNIRU lab in 2025, Justin brings to the team a strong background in visual machine learning and is working to apply modern deep learning-based neuroimaging techniques to the much-needed area of detecting amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Justin uses the valuable brain imaging data from CAPTURE and CALSNIC to develop machine learning tools that can interpret MRI scans to assist medical professionals in the diagnosis and prognosis of ALS. Outside of academia, Justin is an accomplished dancer and esports coach, and he loves cats and dogs.
